Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"Delicious and dry is how we love our Rosé. The 2024 is crafted from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. 2024 was a beautiful season with a long cool autumn which has retained wonderful aromatics in the wines.

Fermented 50:50 in larger format barrels and stainless steel tanks allows the development of savoury complexity to underpin the primary fruit.

The nose is wonderfully reminiscent of a summer salad of watermelon and peach. Side notes of fresh strawberry and quince paste mingle with spice notes of cardamon and aniseed. Tangy and mouth filling, this is a wonderful summer wine and due to its dry, savoury style great paired with food."

Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, March 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"An enticing floral bouquet laced with scents of ripe apricot then raspberry, there’s a light smoky quality either from soil or some old barrel (or both) adding complexity and intrigue. Dry, textured with fine tannins and acidity, flavours of red berries and spice, a whisper of smoke and lees layers in more mouthfeel and length. A lovely example with flavour, texture and depth. Best from day of purchase through 2028+."

5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, March 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"It's finely fragrant on the nose, showing wild strawberry, crunchy apple, lemon peel, and subtle spice aromas. The palate displays youthful fruit intensity with a flowing mouthfeel and fleshy texture, splendidly framed by crisp acidity, finishing long and refreshing. Made from Merlot & Cabernet Sauvignon. At its best: now to 2027."

In Te Reo Māori, Ata Rangi means “dawn sky” or “new beginning,” a name that honours the land and reflects the winery's dedication to its craft. This small, family-owned organic winery in Martinborough, Aotearoa-New Zealand, focuses on creating wines that embody the essence of their place. Founded by Clive Paton in 1980, Ata Rangi has grown from its humble beginnings on a stony sheep paddock. Clive’s sister Alison and his partner Phyll Pattie soon joined him, and today, Alison oversees operations while Helen Masters crafts the wines, supported by vineyard manager Ian Ewart.

Ata Rangi's winemaking philosophy is hands-off and traditional, emphasising the natural expression of their terroir. They aim for balance, using whole bunch fermentation and barrel ageing to enhance vineyard characteristics. Each vintage uniquely reflects its growing conditions, with cooler years bringing herbal notes and warmer seasons offering fuller fruit aromas. Their minimalist approach avoids cultured yeast, enzymes, and fining products, ensuring authentic wines with depth, texture, and ageing potential.
