Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"Delicious and dry is how we love our Rosé. The 2023 is crafted from Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah with small portion of Malbec rounding out the blend. Half tank and half barrel fermented in larger format barrels; this melds the fruit aromas with a more savoury complexity.

The nose is wonderfully reminiscent of a summer salad of watermelon and prosciutto. Side notes of baked raspberry with a dash of balsamic vinegar adds to the moreish nature of this wine. Flavours on the palate of peppered strawberries are framed by bright fresh acidity. This is a wonderful summer wine and due to its more dry, savoury style is great paired with food."

Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, October 2023 (2023 Vintage)
"Aromas and flavours of summer with fresh red berries and peaches, Pacific -Rose apple and chilled tropical fruit tea. Crisp, dry, saline and refreshing mouthfeel, flavours of red fruits and tea mirror the bouquet with a decent intensity with a floral highlight on the finish. Best drinking from 2023 through end of summer 2026."

In Te Reo Māori, Ata Rangi means “dawn sky” or “new beginning,” a name that honours the land and reflects the winery's dedication to its craft. This small, family-owned organic winery in Martinborough, Aotearoa-New Zealand, focuses on creating wines that embody the essence of their place. Founded by Clive Paton in 1980, Ata Rangi has grown from its humble beginnings on a stony sheep paddock. Clive’s sister Alison and his partner Phyll Pattie soon joined him, and today, Alison oversees operations while Helen Masters crafts the wines, supported by vineyard manager Ian Ewart.

Ata Rangi's winemaking philosophy is hands-off and traditional, emphasising the natural expression of their terroir. They aim for balance, using whole bunch fermentation and barrel ageing to enhance vineyard characteristics. Each vintage uniquely reflects its growing conditions, with cooler years bringing herbal notes and warmer seasons offering fuller fruit aromas. Their minimalist approach avoids cultured yeast, enzymes, and fining products, ensuring authentic wines with depth, texture, and ageing potential.
