Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"The Astrolabe Wrekin Vineyard Late Harvest Chenin Blanc is a dessert wine made from the same block as our Wrekin Chenin Blanc but harvested later in the season. The over-row nets at the Wrekin allow us to make picking passes along the rows multiple times during the harvest, leaving select bunches to develop concentration of sugar. Lightly botrytised fruit was hand-picked, whole-cluster pressed and partially fermented to retain considerable natural sweetness.

Chenin blanc makes lovely sweet dessert wines. Dessert wine made from chenin blanc is quite a rarity in New Zealand, and we only produce it when the season is right. The flavours in our chenin blanc lend themselves beautifully to a sweeter style, giving a honeyed, luscious wine that ages well and will continue to develop interest.

Dried tropical fruit and apricot with light toffee apple nuances. Luscious weight without being cloying, easy acidity and lovely stonefruit and citrus flavours. 119 g/l RS."

"From one of New Zealand’s premium chenin blanc vineyards comes this nectarine and yellow plum-packed sweetie that has an incredibly fresh core of citrus and hints of honeysuckle. I love how zesty and energetic this wine is, sweet but vibrant and beautifully balanced."

5 Stars Michael Cooper, May 2023 (2022 Vintage)
"Already a delightful mouthful, the vigorous 2022 vintage was grown in the Wrekin Vineyard, in the Southern Valleys. Bright, light gold, it is fragrant and rich, with concentrated, peachy, citrusy, gently honeyed flavours and a finely poised, sweet, crisp, lasting finish. Vibrant, with lovely delicacy, richness and harmony, it's a drink now or cellaring proposition."
