Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"A complex and alluring bouquet of jasmine, pear, ginger and honeysuckle, intertwined with a zesty hint of mandarin peel. On the palate this wine is textural, rich and full-bodied, with concentrated stonefruit and spicy pear flavours, which persist on a long and juicy palate.
The fruit for this wine was grown on both the upper and the lower terraces of Askerne Vineyard and harvested in multiple picks as each clone reached optimal ripeness. 35% of the juice was fermented in older oak barrels providing texture and richness to the blend, whilst the balance of 65% was cool fermented in tank for aromatic vibrancy. A variety of different yeasts were used across the barrels and tanks to build aromatic complexity. The wines were held for 2 months on lees with stirring to build further palate richness prior to blending."
92/100 Cameron Douglas MS, July 2023 (2023 Vintage)
"An enticing bouquet of white spice and ripe white fleshed orchard fruits. Baked pears and quince, ginger and apple, white nectarine and exotic fruits. A satin texture touches the palate first then contrasting acid line and spices from exotic fruits of lychee then pear, ginger and apple. Delicious, fresh, juicy, youthful and well made, a wine ready from drinking from 20203 through 2026."
4 Stars & 18/20 (90) Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, August 2023 (2023 Vintage)
"Bright, even, pale straw-yellow. The nose is full, with lush aromas of stonefruit, yellow apple, floral and subtle spice. Medium-full bodied, off-dry to taste, apricot and yellow apple aromas melded with magnolia and subtle white spice. The fruit is generous with lively acid balance, flows along a fine-textured mouthfeel. Match with pulled pork tacos and dim sum over the next 2-3 years. Fermented to 13.5% alc."
