97/100 & Platinum Trophy – Decanter World Wine Awards 2022
Judged among the very top wines at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London!
The Decanter World Wine Awards is one of the most respected wine shows in the world, so we follow the results with a very keen eye. The show has a knack for discovering hidden gems – and this is certainly one of them!
From over 15,000 wines entered, only 163 received the coveted Platinum Trophy. When you factor in the price, this is a mighty fine achievement.
Grown in Navarra, nestled in the continental climate of northern Spain, this expressive Graciano (pronounced Gra-see-an-oo) is a satisfying drop in many ways. Think of it as sitting somewhere between Tempranillo (fruit-forward, aromatic and spicy), Grenache (dark fruits, rich), and Nebbiolo (fresh acidity, high-ish tannins), and you’ll be in the right ballpark.
Judges Comments – DWWA (2021 Vintage)
"Focused herbal, wild black fruit and tobacco nose. The youthful palate is poised and approachable with a soft texture, high tannins and brisk acidity. It has an intensity of flavour in the mouth and an energetic, impressively long, finish. A very accomplished expression of Graciano. The value here is superb!"
Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"The 2021 Agramont Graciano is a wine for anyone looking for something a bit different, but a wonderfully balanced and complex alternative to the status quo in red wine. Perfect weight, a soft and elegant texture and silky smooth tannins provide the framework for this Spanish stunner. One would be hard-pressed to find a better value anywhere in the world!
Graciano (Gra- see an-oo) is native to northern Spain, known for its propensity to ripen late and produce naturally low yields. It is often used as a supporting variety in Rioja, but with its ability to tolerate heat in this time of global warming more 100% bottlings are appearing
.
Navarra is located in the northern stretches of Spain, near the town of Pamplona and north of its more famous winegrowing neighbour, Rioja. Its northern border (nearly) is Bay of Biscay in the northwest, and to the northeast are the Pyrenees mountains and the Ebro River – all combining for a unique microclimate ideal for growing excellent fruit!
Incredible value and a flat-out gorgeous wine from start to finish!"
