Annabelle is second-generation winemaking at Aard. Bart is a renegade winemaker from Belgium. They have made wine together and separately in different regions around the world before starting this project together.
They work the land, and are beginning their journey into biodynamics in the vineyard at Pakipaki since their first year there in 2023. They want to stimulate as much life as possible in their soil and environment to bring energy to the wines.
With Annabelle's family, they farm 3.5ha of vines on the limestone marl foothills near Pakipaki. Syrah, Chardonnay, Viognier, Pinot Noir. The vineyard has been farmed organically for over 15 years.
As for winemaking, they want to influence the wine as little as possible. They aim to not add or take anything away from the wine; a small number of our wines may have a small addition of sulphur before the bottling depending on the cuvee, it will always be transparent. Never anything else.
