Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"Perfume, elegant fruit flavours, and soft ripe tannins are all hallmarks of this exceptional Pinot Noir. Perfect weather in Martinborough during owering in December 2014 resulted in an ideal crop which did not require thinning. An exceptional, warm dry summer followed creating the distinctive Escarpment style showing complexity, attractive texture and the perfect mix of black, red and green fruit flavours for which Pinot Noir is celebrated.

The fruit was hand harvested, fermented using indigenous yeasts then gently handled without pumping until it was pressed. Hand plunged every 12 hours then left to macerate on skins for an average vat time of 18 days. It has been aged completely in French oak barriques, of which 30% were new, for 11 months. Inspired by the classic wines of Burgundy, this Pinot Noir is a tribute to Martinborough’s unique terroir. It will cellar gracefully for up to 10 years."
94/100 Bob Campbell MW, April 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Supple, stylish pinot noir with dark cherry, fresh herb, spice, anise, and subtle oak flavours. Gentle tannins provide support without compromising drinkability. Lovely purity and subtle power. Drink 2017 - 2023."
5 Stars & 18.5+/20 Raymond Chan, April 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour with slight purple hues and some depth, a little lighter on the rim. This has a full and deep nose packed with aromas of dark-red and black-berried fruits along with a complex amalgam of savoury dark herbs and whole bunch stalk notes, lifted with aromatic fruit and floral elements. This has excellent intensity. Medium-full bodied, the palate has rich, vibrant and well-concentrated flavours of ripe dark-red and black berried fruits along with dark herbs and balanced whole bunch stalk nuances. The mouthfeel is fresh and lively with excellent vitality, and the fruit underlined by fine-grained background tannin structure. This carries to a long, well-concentrated finish, revealing dark raspberry and floral elements. This is a rich, vibrant, sweet dark-red and black fruited Pinot Noir with a fresh mouthfeel and supporting structure, and subtle dark herb and whole bunch complexities. Match with poultry and pork, and roasted red meats over the next 6-7+ years. Multi-clone blend of fruit from Te Muna Road and Martinborough township, indigenous yeast fermented with 50% whole bunches to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 18 days on skins and aged 11 months in 30% new French oak barriques."
92/100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, May 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Spicy and stalky, aniseed, red and black cherries, fresh cut cedar,  sage and thyme perfume. Medium bodied, slightly sharp, but boisterous and energetic, with grainy tannin, brisk sappy acidity, and an insistently tannic, positive finish, with grilled meat and sweet and sour flavours carrying on. Good stuff."
