Without doubt Chave Hermitage is one of the greatest wines of the appellation if not the best. Established in 1481, it is currently under the direction of Jean-Louis Chave, although his father Gerard is still on the scene. Chave family is based in the small village of Mauves not far from Cornas, on the right bank of the Rhone. However, it is across the river, on the hill of Hermitage where the heart and soul of this famous domaine resides.

Chave produces both a red and white Hermitage but Jean-Louis also runs a small Negociant (JL Chave Selections) business producing wines to the same exacting standards as the domaine wines. These are some of the most amazing gems to be had in the Rhone Valley today.

Mon Coeur ("my heart") is a unique Jean-Louis Chave wine not just because of the appellation, but because of its grape sources. Eight excellent vineyards in the areas of Valreas, Visan and Buisson all chosen for their low yields and exceptional quality of fruit where used. Elegant and aromatic.

"A year-in, year-out smoking value as well as a great bottle of wine, the 2021 Côtes du Rhône Mon Coeur checks in as equal parts Grenache and Syrah brought up in neutral oak. Its vivid ruby hue is followed by a medium-bodied, elegant, lively red offering pretty red and black berry fruits, some spring flowers, peppery herbs, and gamey nuances, fine tannins, and nicely integrated acidity. Coming from a cooler year, it still brings plenty of richness and depth and is well worth seeking out."
