Gold Medal – New Zeland International Wine Show 2026
Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"A refined and perfumed nose of plums, blackcurrant, blackberry, dried herbs and dark chocolate. Flavours of dark cherry, tapenade, cinnamon, fruit cake and cedar flow over the palate.
Located on the southern banks of the Ngaruroro River in the famed Gimblett Gravels sub-region. Mature Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon vines are planted on young, deep alluvial gravels that are free draining and encourage low yields and concentrated flavour. A sub-region that has naturally low rainfall and high sunshine hours producing exceptional cool climate wine.
It is full bodied with the Merlot providing a core of fruit while the Cabernet Sauvignon adds structure and weight. Silky, ripe tannins and fine acid produce a remarkably focused wine that will age seamlessly. Open top stainless steel fermenters. Pressed to 35% new, 30% second use and 35% older French oak barriques. 100% malolactic fermentation. 15 months in barrel prior to blending."
Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, April 2026 (2024 Vintage)
"Great colour intensity followed by a bouquet of the same- blackberry and spiced tobacco chocolate and dark cherry plum compote then smoky barrel and sweet tilled earth ideas. Dry, lots of weight, spice and intensity. Fine through firm tannins and some bolder acid lines though not too much. Balanced and firm, youthful and fresh fruity and varietal."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, March 2026 (2024 Vintage)
"It's beautifully composed and styled, showing blackcurrant, tobacco, warm spice, and fine oak aromas on the nose. The palate delivers succulent fruit intensity, fine texture, and well-infused tannins, making it wonderfully structured and harmonious with a persistent, refined finish. At its best: now to 2034."
4 Stars Cuisine NZ Bordeaux Style Red Tasting, June 2026 (2024 Vintage)
"Youthful in the glass with blackberries, plums and currants coming through on the nose alongside hints of dried tobacco over oak toast. The palate is concentrated and well balanced with supple tannins and a juicy finish."
