Grenache with Shiraz (35%) and Mataro (24%) á la Cotes du Rhone. Grenache’s sweet scented floral, cola notes are off-set with the plum, chocolate, juicy Shiraz and the twist of spicy, tannic Mataro. Medium bodied with good weight and persistence on the palate. There’s enough here to suggest this would be wonderful in a couple of years.
Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"With more than 170 years of unbroken independence, Yalumba continues to make wine at its founder’s home estate under direction of the same family today. Samuel’s Collection honours Yalumba’s founder Samuel Smith, his spirit of independence and conviction to invest in the land and make great wine.
The Grenache is sourced from the Kalimna and Marananga subregions of the Barossa known for their light, sandy soils over clay, perfect for growing quality Grenache. The Shiraz is primarily sourced from the Kalimna subregion, renowned for delivering great perfume and mid-palate weight. The Mataro is grown in a single vineyard in Kalimna and adds tannin length to the wine.
Lovely garnet red in colour. Aromas of plums and wild blackberry mingling with milk chocolate and smoky spice make this wine instantly appealing. The palate is full of sweet, silky, dark berry fruit and mocha chocolate finishing with beautifully plush tannins."

"A good-looking middle-weight red with sweet plum, toasted almond, tapenade and floral aromas, it's smooth and supple in the mouth delivering bright fruit intensity with finely pitched tannins. Seductive and tempting, it's soothing and fabulously drinkable. At its best: now to 2030."
