VALDIBELLA KERASOS NERO d’AVOLA 2021

Grown on the former site of a 16th century Jesuit monastery famed for its wine and produce, the Valdibella Cooperative continues the noble work of the ancient monks by providing a livelihood to recovering drug addicts. Kerasos is Greek for ‘cherry’ and an apt name for this delicious fruit driven wine, the aroma, flavour and freshness of which are influenced by the cooling breezes and temperature fluctuation of this hilly high plane in western Sicily.

"It is not by chance that we called this wine Kerasos meaning “Cherry” from the Greek language (κερασος) Its aroma of cherry and red fruits is unmistakable. This is the characteristic that marks Nero d’Avola in our area. We believe that this quality is due to the conditions of our territory. The calcareous clay soils, high hills with ventilation and strong temperature changes, combine to give us a wine that combines body and structure with great elegance, hints of fruit and never has aggressive tannins.

It's made from vineyards in the rolling hills of Camporeale countryside, between 250 and 350 meters above sea level. Grapes are all harvested by hand and transported to the winery in small baskets where they are de-stemmed and go through natural fermentation. which takes about 10 days at about 24° C. The finished wine spends six months aging in stainless steel before bottling."
