Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"Shiraz is a variety that carries great significance in the Barossa Valley and as caretakers for some of the oldest surviving Shiraz vines in the world (dating back to 1847), we take immense pride in crafting this wine. Our highly acclaimed Shiraz has received numerous awards since its first vintage in 1990. However it's the versatility of this wine, in the way it embraces both power and elegance that we are most proud of. Approachable in its youth or cellar for many years.
The 2019 Turkey Flat Shiraz is tightly coiled. A wine of great finesse, the power and longevity of this wine will only be revealed with time, be that open for a day on your kitchen bench or a decade in your cellar. With time boysenberry, blackberry, violet, earth, clove toast and cedarwood will all be revealed to expose a wine of tension, restraint and underlying power.
This Shiraz is a result of a very intricate blending process. After each parcel of fruit is individually vinified & aged in specially selected French oak barrels, the final blend is created with careful consideration to upholding its reputation for cellaring gracefully, retaining its freshness and balance for many years. 18 Months matured in new & seasoned French oak hogsheads, 43% of which are new."
5 Stars & 95/100 Aaron Brasher, The Real Review (2019 Vintage)
"Deep, dark and a very youthful purple in colour. Aromas of dark plums, mulberries and chocolate, graphite, charry oak and a whiff of menthol. Deep, dark and brooding black fruit flavours, there’s real power in the fruit, but the savoury tannin and lively acidity harness the power and shape the wine very nicely. Very good length and mouth-feel. It screams out for some protein."
