Winery notes (2020 Vintage)
"An artist's wine – soft but powerful. Concentrated dark fruits, blackberries, dark cherries, cooked strawberries with pretty tannins, with a polished finish – to be savoured all evening. The Needle's Eye continues to capture our season of Pinot Noir, including fruit hand-picked across all Pinot Noir blocks and clones of our vineyard.
The 2020 Needle’s Eye is a representation of all clones and soil profiles on the vineyard taken from the all 5 pinot blocks. The elevated blocks lie on undisturbed clay soils overlying greywacke parent rock, while lower blocks are planted on wind-deposited, loess soils. Vine age approx 18 years. 2020 was the first certified organic (Biogro 5732) vintage, with the vineyard under biodynamic practices since 2017. 100% wild fermentation. 7% whole bunch. 14-25 days on skins. No additives other than sulphites. 12 months in old french oak. No new oak."
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2025 (2020 Vintage)
"Beautifully poised and inviting, the wine shows sweet cherry, floral, olive, game, and toasted almond characters. The palate displays excellent weight and beautifully rounded mouthfeel, splendidly supported by layers of polished tannins, making it sturdy yet plush and lingering. From their single vineyard in the Southern Valleys. Certified organic & biodynamic. At its best: now to 2034."
