Vineyard of the Year – New Zealand Organic Wine Awards 2025
Gold Medal – New Zealand Organic Wine Awards 2025
Winery notes (2020 Vintage)
"The four most outstanding Syrah barrels from the 2020 vintage were selected and allowed an additional six months in oak before being blended together. We are ultra-fastidious in our organic Syrah vineyard to ensure the fruit has intense concentration of flavour. This involves much careful hand work to moderate crop levels and expose the fruit to the sun.
Displaying deep, dark hues, this Syrah promises concentration and character. Co-fermented with Viognier, it showcases our vineyard’s unique profile with bright dark fruit flavours layered with spice, floral notes, and savoury complexity. The palate is rich and deep, with supple, velvety tannins and fine acidity. Enjoy this wine upon release or allow it to evolve further with careful cellaring."
5 Stars & 96/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, December 2025 (20202 Vintage)
"It's richly fruited and alluring on the nose, showing dark fruit intensity, cured meat, dried herb, and roasted nut aromas. The palate offers excellent concentration, a plump mouthfeel, and fleshy texture, beautifully framed by grainy tannins, leading to an impressively long, satisfying finish. Certified organic. At its best: now to 2032."
Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, June 2025 (2020 Vintage)
"Dark ruby and red core with purple hues lead to a bouquet of dark berries and bracken, there’s a gentle herbal tobacco frame then scents of blackberry and plum then home-made raspberry-jam. Some smoky wood and barrel spices add complexity and intrigue. Dry with nice weight and intensity, the tannins are smooth and integrating well, the acidity carries some power still carrying flavours of berries and spices. A lick of pepperiness and baking spices add further complexity and length. Well made with good drinking from 2025 through 2030."
5 Stars & 19+/20 (96) Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, May 2025 (2020 Vintage)
"Deep ruby-red with a purple hue, slightly lighter on the rim. The nose is full, with pronounced aromas of plum, blackberry, boysenberry, violet, cedar, black pepper and nutmeg. Full-bodied, aromas of black plum, boysenberry and blackberry entwined with violet, cedar, black tea, black pepper and nutmeg. The fruit is lifted, and with good depth, flows with enlivening acidity and unfolding black tea fragrance and spice. Velvety tannin structure provides vitality and lingers to a sustained, gratifying finish. An enticing, rich Syrah with Integrated details, elegance and a harmonious finish. Match with roasted lamb and beef short ribs over the next 8+ years. Co-fermented with Viognier, 14% alc."
