Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"We love Riesling as a variety for its purity, elegance and age ability and believe that our old vines (mostly planted in late 70s) combined with the growing conditions here in Marlborough are capable of making world class Riesling. Our SV (SV5182) Riesling ‘D’ is a dry style which has excellent fruit weight and concentration to balance the lingering mineral acid structure. This wine is finely structured with great length of flavour.
This wine has gorgeous lifted aromas of jasmine, fresh lemon, and ripe Kaffir lime follow through on to the palate. Flavours of fresh lime juice, lemon sorbet and ripe grapefruit with hints of floral spice are balanced by a fine backbone of ripe acidity. This Riesling is a dry style which has excellent fruit weight and concentration to balance the lingering mineral acid structure. This wine is finely structured with great length of flavour."
5 Stars & 96/100 #1 of 19 from Marlborough, Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review (2022 Vintage)
"A classic nose which unfurls with juicy mandarin, musky spice, and sweet basil— each note soaring higher than the last as it lifts off. The palate is perfectly balanced, oscillating between the spine-tingling acidity, fruit sweetness and mouth-coating concentration. Intense, spicy and stony while being light on its feet, a masterclass in poise and precision. Very young but with a bright future ahead."
95/100 Susie Barrie MW & Peter Richards MW (UK), Susie & Peter New Zealand Wines of the Year 2026 (2022 Vintage)
"One of the secrets to this wine is the fact the grapes come from the oldest Riesling vines in Marlborough, planted in 1979, and the fruit has incredible intensity, which perfectly suits this dry style (3.2 g/l). There was a bit of skin contact in the winemaking mix, plus long lees aging and no fining. We feel there’s more than a nod to Australia’s Clare Valley in the lime rind and green-apple aromatics. The texture is soft and yoghurty and the overall balance and harmony of the wine superb."
93/100 Erin Larkin, RobertParker.com, Wine Advocate (2022 Vintage)
"The 2022 Riesling ‘D’ leads on the nose with cut lime and lemon oil, wet chalk and citrus pith, and white flowers emerge on the palate. The vines were planted in 1979 and are the oldest vines in Marlborough. The acidity is dry and fine; it spools through the fruit and is woven as threads through the phenolics. This is a gorgeous wine, crystalline and chalky, with three grams of residual per litre."
