Trophy for Champion Rosé – New World Wine Awards 2024
Gold Medal – New World Wine Awards 2024
This classy Cental Otago Pinot Noir Rose is a great example of how a couple years of bottle age can enhance the drinking experience of Rose. The time in bottle helps to soften the acidity and harmonise the fruit flavours.
Te Kano are a relatively new player on the Central Otago wine scene but have already made some significant investment into the region – they are really starting to produce some impressive wines!
They have a strong passion for conservation (as well as making delicious wines) and are undergoing some extensive regenerative projects around their Estate vineyards based in Bannockburn, Northburn and Waitaki. Working with organic practices (not yet certified) the care and attention here is obvious and they are definitely a winery to keep an eye on going forward.
Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"Hand picked fruit and minimal skin contact ensures a brilliantly pale and clear wine with intense aromas of raspberry sherbet, passionfruit and pink grapefruit. The palate shows fresh stone fruit, red apple and a defined minerality."
5 Stars & 18.5+/20 (94) Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, August 2024 (2023 Vintage)
"Bright, even, pale blush pink. The nose is fresh, with aromas of cherry, raspberry, pomegranate, petals and a touch of herb. Medium-bodied, dry to taste, aromas of raspberry lead the palate with red cherry, pomegranate, petals and a touch of thyme. The fruit is fresh and pure, lively and cleansing acidity flows effortlessly to a sustained floral nuanced closing. An elegantly expressed Pinot Noir Rosé with finesse and a refreshing palate. Serve as an aperitif or match with sushi over the next 2-3 years. Fruit from Northburn vineyard, fermented in stainless steel to 13% alc, 4.1 g/l RS."
Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, September 2034 (2023 Vintage)
"A delicious wine with a brightness and freshness showcasing flavours of fresh raspberry and yellow plum flesh, some charry and fine lees textures. Balanced, well made and delicious. Best drinking from 2024 through end of summer 2027."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2024 (2024 Vintage)
"Elegant and fabulously expressed, the enticing bouquet shows sweet strawberry, melon, nectarine and white floral notes, followed by a finely flowing palate that's juicy and persistent. It's beautifully framed by fleshy texture and zesty acidity, making it super tasty and lingering. At its best: now to 2026."
