Gold Medal – The National Wine Awards of Aotearoa New Zealand 2023
We have seen more and more New Zealand versions of the Spanish/Portuguese variety Albariño hitting the market in recent times. It's a variety that seems to work well here right throughout the country. This one is part of the Left Field range from Te Awa in Gisborne and initially stands out due to its price but what's in the bottle measures up very nicely indeed. Bright, light and fresh it shows florals, stonefruit, tangy citrus and mineral. A fab alternative to crisp dry Rieslings or Pinot Gris.
Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"Life’s a beach with Albariño. Originally grown on the Spanish coast, this expat is living a new life growing down under in Gisborne, New Zealand. An aromatic upstart that will duel for your affection with juicy peach and melon flavours to be so more than your holiday romance."
Good Value, JancisRobinson.com, April 2024 (2023 Vintage)
"Key-lime pie and white-flower aromas lead into a broad, creamy palate beautifully balanced by crisp acidity. Long and perfumed."
