Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"Lovely intense dark cherry, wild forest berries, toasty baking spices with complex savoury undertones on the nose. The palate flows from fruit purity into more savoury and complex flavours. It has silky tannins, great fleshiness and depth, elegance and balance.
The fruit was hand-picked at 3 different dates to ensure optimum ripeness across the different Pinot Noir clones (667, 777, 115,114, Abel). The grapes were destemmed and gravity fed into open-top fermenters. The juice was inoculated with yeast from ‘The Wrekin’ vineyard. During fermentation a mix of gentle hand plunging, and pump overs occurred. After 18 days on skins the wine was gently pressed and transferred to French oak, where it aged for 14 months. The wine went through 100% malolactic fermentation in early spring before blending and bottling."
5 Stars & 96/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"This is sensually appealing on the nose with sweet berry, charcuterie, clove and toasted nut aromas, followed by a superbly weighted palate that's silky and expansive. Multi-layered and soothing with delicious, complex flavours. A wine of graceful power and sophistication. Certified Organic. At its best: now to 2032."
Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, September 2023 (2022 Vintage)
"An excellent bouquet of pinosity with a mix of savoury dried herbs and red berry fruit scents, dark cherry and baked raspberry then baking spices of barrel from clove to a touch of nutmeg and vanilla. Some dried leaves and rose qualities with an earthy dried clay complexity. Excellent textures and flavours with firm tannins and a backbone of acidity. Flavours reflect the bouquet along with plum and vanilla, textures of a fine wine that with some careful cellaring will show its true potential from 2026 through 2036+."
5 Stars & 19/20 (95) Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, December 2023 (2022 Vintage)
"Light ruby-red with some depth, even colour throughout. This has a lifted, ethereal bouquet with aromas of red cherry, ripe strawberry, rosehip and a hint of herb. Medium-bodied, red and black cherry aromas, ripe strawberry entwined with rosehip, thyme, cinnamon, nutmeg and a savoury undertone. Supple, velvety tannins reflect sweet spices on a creamy mouthfeel. Integrated acidity lingers with herbs and spices, lending a poised, elegant finish. Match with duck and pork scotch steak over the next 10+ years. Clones 667, 777, 115,114, Abel. Handpicked, destemmed, fermented in open-top fermenters, inoculated with yeast from The Wrekin vineyard, 18 days on skins, aged 14 months in French oak, underwent spring MLF."
