"A fruit driven nose with notes of chocolate and spice. Full bodied and concentrated with layers of ripe blackberry, blackcurrant and dark chocolate with spicy cedar notes. The palate is dark and dense with a velvety texture and complex spice flavours leading to a long toasty finish.
This outstanding fruit was sourced predominantly from a single vineyard within the Gimblett Gravels winegrowing district of Hawkes Bay. The vigour moderating, free draining gravel provides a superb base for this low cropping Merlot. This vineyard site has ideal ripening conditions for achieving the full aromatic profile and tannin structure that Merlot can give. The fruit was carefully monitored during ripening and harvested in the cool evening at maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness."

"Full, deep ruby-red, slightly lighter on the rim. This has a robust bouquet with aromas of dark plum, blackcurrant, cocoa, leather, spice and meaty nuances. Full-bodied, aromas of dark plum and blackcurrant have a concentrated core, unfolding cocoa, leather, dark minerals, cured meat and spices. Fine-grained tannins show an earthy, mineral-rich quality and provide a good frame structure. Concentrated fruit and elegant spice linger to a long, rich closing. This Merlot is enticing, with a rich palate and structure elevated by dense fruit and fine acidity. Match with braised beef shortribs and roasted meat over the 10 years. Fruit from the Gimblett Gravels fermented to 13.5% alc."
