Winery notes (2020 Vintage)
"Most people would be unaware that Cabernet Sauvignon has been planted in the Barossa since at least 1888. Barossa Cabernets are rich, full flavoured wines and are a perfect fit into the Rockford stable. The fruit for this wine comes predominantly from vineyards along Rifle Range Road. The ‘Biscay’ soil of these vineyards is heavy clay, lending the wine its full flavour and earthy tones. The perfect wine to hide in your cellar, for as long as you are able."
Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, November 2023 (2020 Vintage)
"This is an interesting wine, and sort of atypical for Rifle Range. In some respects, it reminds me a little of a more modern expression of Barolo from a warm vintage, which indeed is a very strange thing to say, though that’s how I find it. It’s all dark cherry and plum, new leather, some tar and roses, liquorice, menthol, a smattering of cedar oak. It’s slightly baked in fruit profile, but has supple grainy tannin, a dried herb character, walnut and earthy flavours, with a minty finish of good length. I like it, but it’s a different expression of RR, that’s for sure."
