Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"This beautiful garnet-coloured wine has complex aromas of boysenberry, brulee, roasted coffee, black liquorice and savoury wild thyme. The flavours continue the concentration of dark brambly fruits, spicy clove and aniseed with balanced acidity and lasting chalky tannins.
The 3 clones (115. Abel, and 777) were hand-harvested. hand-sorted. and then only 80% were destemmed. The fruit was co-fermented using the indigenous yeast and left on skins for 17 days post ferment. The free run wine was then transferred to 3-year-old French Oak barriques (33% new) where it underwent indigenous MLF in Spring of 2018 and matured for 20 months in total. The wine was then racked off it's lees, lightly fined with egg whites and bottled without filtration."
94/100 Emma Jenkins MW, Decanter UK, August 2024 (2018 Vintage)
"A special bottling from selected rows in the middle of the organically farmed Trig Hill Vineyard in Bendigo, this is a medley of three clones which spends 20 months in French oak, a third of which is new. Savoury, subtle dark brambly fruits, wood spice, mushroom, soft soy and spice; this is clearly intended to be a ‘serious’ style but the winery has been careful to retain good elegance and silky berry and plum fruit. Very fine tannins, savoury and mellow, this is in a good place for drinking now."
