This is one of those 'what's the catch, it's too good to be true situations'… A super premium, extremely limited, aged Central Otago Pinot Noir at this price is just unheard of!

Due to market factors, the wine is being discontinued, and stock is needing to be liquidated, hence this price point well below the intended original sale price.

Perhaps a label you will be unfamiliar with, Providore is the result of some very experienced Central Otago industry heads coming together to create wines that showcase the best that Central Otago has to offer. The special edition P-Series is the top of the line in the portfolio and this particular vintage was limited to just 1000 bottles, individually numbered. There were two wines produced (a Black Label also) with the White Label paying homage to the old-world winemaking traditions from Burgundy.

The resulting wine is nothing short of a sensational Pinot, with everything that is so revered in this famous variety. Pitch perfect, dusty tannins are supplemented by beautiful ripe red and black fruits, subtle spice and savoury nuances all framed with refreshing acidity and subtle oak, leading to a seductive, complex and long finish. A supple pinot that is sure to please!

The only catch… We only have a limited amount to sell, so this is strictly a first-in-first served situation. No rainchecks and we reserve the right to limit quantities to ensure fairness for everyone, as this will no doubt sell out in a flash!

Jody Pagey, Winemaker notes (2019 Vintage)
"The goal when creating the P Series was to showcase the influence of winemaking philosophy on Pinot Noir from Central Otago. The techniques applied in the making of this wine have been based on my time winemaking in Chambolle Musigny, Burgundy. The ethos behind this style is to ensure the wine is as true a representation of the vineyard and season as possible. Pinot Noir made using these techniques tend more towards fruit purity and freshness. They are less obvious and more about subtly and finesse. To achieve this the winemaking must be very delicate, only intervening when absolutely necessity, giving the wine a chance to speak and to be heard.

Fragrant and juicy red summer berries leap from the glass on first inspection. This theme continues in the glass with crisp, concentrated red berries and an ethereal texture. Minerality and concentration drive the bright fruit through to a long and balanced finish. The wine closes with purity and energy that slowly reveals the subtle oak and restrained tannin.

Sourcing fruit from three different sub regions allows us to find the best attributes of each area. This wines final composition included parcels of fruit from the Gibbston Valley and Alexandra. Alexandra is famous for its intense summer heat while Gibbston Valley is the coldest of the grape growing regions in Central Otago. This cooler influence leads to wines with brighter red fruits and more acidity. This acidity forms the bases for the mouth watering freshness and minerality in this Pinot Noir. The Alexandra heat adds balance to these cooler elements and ensures the bright fruits do not descend into greenness and underripe characters."

5 Stars & 96/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, September 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Immensely complex and inviting, the wine shows dark berry, smoked game, almond and fragrant spice aromas with a gorgeous floral overtone. It's concentrated and refined on the palate, delivering excellent fruit purity combined with seductive savoury nuances, brilliantly framed by fine grainy tannins. At its best: 2022 to 2032."

94/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, October 2022 (2019 Vintage)
"Fresh, high-energy wine with floral/violet, red cherry/berry, fresh herb and spicy oak flavours with a backbone of fine, ripe tannins interwoven with gentle acidity. Supple pinot noir that is accessible now but no rush."

John Bartlett, nzwinedirectory.co.nz, October 2022 (2019 Vintage)
"The first of 2 special new pinots from Jody Pagey at Providore Wines – Decanted before tasting. Bright cherry / ruby red in colour lighter toward the rim, medium bodied. Fragrant nose of ripe red and black berry, dark plum & spice aromas, savoury / gamey notes too. Concentrated full flavoured palate with red & dark fruit, a refreshing acid backbone, fabulous dusty / chalky tannins & just a little subtle oak. Nicely integrated, complex with a long satisfying finish – beautiful sub-regional pinot made with minimal intervention but lots of care! Elegant, smooth, wonderful!"
