Peter Lehmann wines have a long, proud tradition in the Barossa Valley, and continue that legacy by producing a fabulous fortified wine from the traditional Portuguese variety, Touriga National. Produced from a single vineyard planted in 1985, The King will age gracefully for a decade or two more, although it's already so delicious now, it really is perfect treat to indulge at your next dinner party, or sip away at on cooler nights.
Winery notes (2020 Vintage)
"At Peter Lehmann Wines, we maintain the Barossa tradition of producing a few barrels of fortified wine from each vintage and laying the bottled contents to rest and mature in our cellars for 6 or 7 years before release. Fittingly, we title this wine – ‘The King’.
Deeply coloured with a bright purple hue. A bouquet of blackcurrant, Turkish delight and raspberry with nice lavender spice in the background. The palate has concentrated cassis, spice and subtle blackcurrant with lingering yet balanced sweetness.
The grapes were picked towards the end of harvest in the Barossa at approximately 15 baume. After fermenting on skins for a period of 3 days, the wines was fortified with a blend of neutral and light Brandy spirit to retain some residual sugar and enhance the Tourigas varietal aroma and flavour."
