Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"This red wine from McLaren Vale is a true representative of the Penny's Hill McLaren Vale terroir, 'Cracking Black' pays homage to the Bay of Biscay soils which contribute to the generosity and richness of the mighty Shiraz wines of the region."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, April 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"This is instantly appealing on the nose with blackberry, warm spice, thyme and roasted nut aromas. The palate displays richly textured mouthfeel, wonderfully complemented by succulent fruit flavours with spicy nuances, finishing persistent and supple. Upfront and gorgeously drinking. At its best: no to 2037."
94/100 Ken Garrett, WinePilot.com May 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"The wine spent fifteen months in French oak barrels before selection for the final blend. The colour a near black/purple, the wine is dense, concentrated and powerful. Those who enjoy big and bold McLaren Vale Shiraz will be excited by this. More savoury than plushly fruited, there are notes of graphite, black fruits, aniseed, soy and truffles. A wine with impressive length and fine tannins, which will drink well for at least the next ten to twelve years. A cracking Shiraz indeed! And cracking value."
92/100 Ray Jordan, WinePilot.com June 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"A wine that has consistently been a winner in this price point. It’s a class act Shiraz with lots of dark vibrant fruit characters evident on the nose and then into the dense and concentrated palate. It’s a soft and generous style with abundant red berry, dark chocolate and spicy pepper characters. Delicious."
