A serious Riserva from a traditional estate in Chianti Classico. This is an old-school blend of finely structured Tuscan Sangiovese deepened by the darker-fruited inflections of its ancient vineyard companions, Canaiolo and Mammolo. This once-famous Pagliarese label has been revived by Felsina, who depart from their modern and single-varietal principles to capture this traditional blended style. At about the cost of a good Classico, this Riserva has pedigree written all over it and can only rise in price and regard.

"The 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva is another gorgeous old-school wine from Pagliarese. Black cherry, cloves, licorice, leather and woodsmoke give the 2018 its distinctive, somber feel. This dense, super-expressive Riserva certainly has tons of character. Tasting the 2018 is like stepping back in time thirty years."
