Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"Nelson lends itself to sophisticated, savoury Pinot Noir. Pinot for cool nights and roaring fires, for leather couches and interesting conversation. Juicy, delicious and deeply typical of our Home Block, the 2023 vintage hums with quiet confidence.
A visceral note runs through the wine, layered with warm smoke and manuka forest. Black plum, wild cherry and dried thyme emerge, wrapped in a lingering savoury perfume. It’s dark, smouldering and long. A Pinot that feels subterranean—textural, mineral, and seductive in its restraint."
96/100 Emma Jenkins MW, Decanter UK, October 2025 (2023 Vintage)
"A wonderfully layered, savoury wine in a rich, polished style showing a touch of oak at first – though well handled. Aromas of dark, spicy fruit meld with floral notes of violets and roses, and smoky dried herbs. The palate is supple and silky, with fine, slightly sinewy tannins and again a touch of glossy oak, though there’s plenty of fruit concentration to support both. A long, dry, minerally finish. Still very youthful."
5 Stars & 95/100 Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review, November 2025 (2023 Vintage)
"A cool, relaxed nose with detailed blue fruit and floral nuances. Already surprisingly expressive and accessible, the palate unfolds in layers of earthy, spicy and woody complexity before freshening back up with blueberry and black cherry on the long, lively finish. A distinctly charming wine with effortless concentration, elegance and poise which holds attention with ease.
Although not profound or impressively powerful, it has everything in just the right amounts to allow for a graceful evolution in the cellar—so well balanced, in fact, that it will bring pleasure at every stage of its life."
Rated Outstanding & 95/100 Cameron Douglas MS, April 2025 (2023 Vintage)
"A rather fantastic bouquet of complexity and intrigue, varietal intensity and true sense of site and mature vines. Aromas and flavours of dried raspberry and cherry, layers of clay and stones, barrel spices and gentle wood smoke. Clove and vanilla, earth-smoke and dark red berry fruits. There’s a light yet distinctive wild rose quality layering in finesse and charm. Taut and very new still yet the way this wine salivates the palate with flavour and texture is rare. Best window for drinking between 2028 and 2035."
93/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, April 2025 (2023 Vintage)
"This is sandy and suede, shows some tension and grip, though there’s an ease of drinking despite that. An open invitation from perfume of dark cherry, raspberry coulis, coffee grounds, garam masala spice. The palate a similar echo with a retort of powdery tannin lending some pucker and chomp. It feels very savoury, dusty, somewhat drying, but in all that a serious expression and one of great interest."
17.5+/20 Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com, June 2025 (2023 Vintage)
"More savoury and structural than their Tom's Block: it's like Nuits v Beaune. Weightier and warmer on the palate, with darker cherry fruit. There's firm flesh to this, and plenty of fruit intensity for the future. "
