Nautilus Estate Chardonnay has become one of your favourites over the past few vintages, so it is always with interest we await a new vintage release. This 2024 will have you smiling. We think it rates alongside the previous trophy winning wines in quality. Winemaker Clive Jones avoids the over-use of sulphites, so there is little funkiness – just brilliant golden fruits (nectarine and peach) and nutty savouriness. Rounded and complete on the palate – a very satisfying wine.

Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"A straw-coloured wine with a lifted bouquet of ripe nectarines, brioche, beeswax and toasted almonds. The palate displays stone fruits and honeysuckle along with a nutty complexity from the natural ferments. The palate has good depth and concentration with a refreshingly long finish. This wine has a tight mineral structure and will develop a creamy texture as it matures.

Handpicked grapes were chilled overnight before gentle pressing. The wine was entirely barrelled fermented in French oak barriques (20% new) using indigenous yeast. A short period of lees stirring post ferment adds a textural element to the palate."

Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, December 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"Classic Nautilus expression, ripe and bold, a wine with power and core flavours of roasted stone fruits and baking spices, cashew nut and vanilla, red apple and a crumbled stony soil quality. Plenty of weight and texture to match, this is not a big buttery style it is elegant and sophisticated with fine textures from fruit and acidity with a frame of judiciously measure oak. Well made and lengthy with best drinking from early 2026 through 2032."

Nautilus Estate's dedicated and forward-thinking team of viticulturists and winemakers have a very particular approach to their craft: they carefully blend various fruit parcels to create wines with intricate layers of complexity and put a special emphasis on enhancing their texture and mouthfeel. To achieve this, they are equipped with state-of-the-art, albeit small-scale, winemaking facilities that provide the necessary tools and precision.

While Nautilus wines are certainly enjoyable on their own, their true potential shines when paired with delectable cuisine. Winemaker Clive Jones places a significant emphasis on crafting wines that harmonise seamlessly with food, making it one of Nautilus' core philosophies.

At Nautilus, simplicity is a guiding principle, reflected in a small friendly team. A smaller team size allows each member to be fully engaged in the winemaking process from start to finish. It also affords Clive, the winemaker, the opportunity to dedicate his time to the art of winemaking rather than the management of a large workforce. It's an intentionally hands-on approach!

Excellent winery facilities grant Nautilus Estate the freedom to harvest grapes at their peak ripeness rather than being constrained by logistical considerations. This level of control extends to aspects such as the degree of extraction – the color and flavour – obtained from the grape skins.

Being a family-owned vineyard, they have the privilege of drawing upon generations of experience in the ever-evolving world of wine production. Owner, Robert Hill Smith, represents their fifth generation of family vintners, a lineage underscoring a commitment to a cautious, long-term approach. Changes are only implemented if they enhance the quality of their wines.

Nautilus invites you to savour a relaxed and informal wine tasting experience at their beautifully renovated cellar door tasting bar. Here, Guests have the chance to sample wines from their current selection and fully appreciate the fruits of Nautilus Estate's labours of love.
