From a single vineyard on Waiheke Island, this is the highly regarded top label from this winery. It comes with our (and reviewers) highest recommendation. This represents an incredible opportunity to procure a top shelf wine at an astonishingly low price.
Why Mystery labels? We use these when a producer may wish to clear excess stock or end of vintage lines, but they don't want to compromise the brand integrity, especially on-line where names and prices are visible to all. We can’t tell you the producer or normal RRP here – you’ll find this out when you open the box or come into store.
Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"An amalgamation of stunning fruit, stylish oak & layers of integrated texture. Ripe blackberries, blackcurrants & cigar meld with juicy black doris plum. A superbly weighted palate framed by chocolatey tannins & great length. A velvet revolver designed for superior concealment."
5 Stars & 96/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, June 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"A stunning rendition, the wine shows blackcurrant, blueberry, violet, cedar and subtle tobacco aromas on the nose, followed by a concentrated palate displaying terrific weight and depth. Sturdy and bold, while remaining elegant and refined, it's gorgeously structured by layers of chalky tannins, leading to a sustained, engaging finish. A blend of 45% Merlot, 21% Malbec, 16% Petit Verdot, 15% Cabernet Franc & 3% Syrah. At its best: 2026 to 2037."
Rated Outstanding & 95/100 Cameron Douglas MS, June 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"An excellent bouquet of dark berries and graphite, sweet cigar scents and wood smoke, stony baked clay soils and violets. Full-bodied, firm and dry with flavours of blackberry and Dorus plums, chocolate and anise led spice package. Firm polished tannins and plenty of acidity set in place a firm structure. Delicious drinking from 2026 through 2035+."
5 Stars & 18.5+/20 (94) Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, July 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"Full, deep ruby-red with a purple core, slightly lighter on the rim. The nose is full, with aromas of plum, cassis, red berry, cedar, red florals and an amalgam of spice. Full-bodied, aromas of plum, cassis and red berry are succulent, entwined with cedar, clove, star anise and red floral details. Finely weaved, firm tannins provide structure for the succulent fruit; enticing acidity carries elegantly to a long, satisfying finish. This Merlot blend is harmonious, with enticing acidity and lush fruit on a fine tannin frame. Match with meat stew or steak over the next 8+ years. A blend of 45% Merlot, 21% Malbec, 16% Petit Verdot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 3% Syrah, fermented to 13.5% alc."
