From a wine label that has not been seen in the NZ market for a number of years. When we tried a sample a while ago, we recognised the quality on offer, and once we knew the price we could offer it for we jumped onto it straight away. Promoted as a Mystery label to protect the brand online, you can do a quick search once you know the name to see for yourself what a fantastic buy this is.
This is a Shiraz in the style we know our customers love – rich, hearty and very satisfying. Grab yourself a bargain.
95/100 James Halliday's Wine Companion (2021 Vintage)
"Picked in two small batches a week apart, the first with preferment maceration, early pressed to French hogsheads. Juicy medium-bodied style with layers of flavour, ranging through blackberry, tar, licorice and plum, then a dark chocolate farewell. Finesse and elegance are its calling cards."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"Sweetly ripe and inviting, the bouquet shows dark plum, ripe cherry, clove and toasted nut aromas, followed by a succulent palate displaying excellent weight and supple texture. Upfront and flavoursome, making it highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2036."

"Perhaps the most ‘cool climate’ of these Vineyard Release wines, this Robe Shiraz reminds us again that the SA SE is such a forgotten Shiraz powerhouse region that deserves more love. This has meaty pan juices in among the purple fruit, again with the lavish dark chocolate and mint oak too. The acidity is more noticeable here, making it feel more moderate, too. Another good wine in this range."
91/100 Ken Gargett, WinePilot.com, June 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"An emerging region, Robe is a name appearing more and more on labels. This is from a single vineyard in the region. The wine then spent 18 months in a mix of 300-litre French and American oak. Deep crimson in colour. There are hints of raspberries and mulberries, florals and cassis with lots of cherries. An attractive style, a little plush, finely balanced with a good flick of acidity. Fine, slightly firm grip, medium length and with notes of sour cherries rounding up the conclusion. Promising and will provide pleasure over the next four to six years."
91/100 QWineReviews.com, June 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"This is a big and generous Shiraz ready for steak night. Dense, it has a warmth and delivers an abrasive edge that softens with time. Plums and drunken cherries plus some Cherry Ripe appeal, some tense Chinese five spice wriggles forward. An earthy wine with charcoal and flashes of caramel, it makes me wish I had some beef ribs on hand. Good stuff."
Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, May 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"This delivers warm, sweet fruit flavour in an open and accessible way. There’s no real artifice or artefact; it’s all sweet plums and raspberries with peppercorn and clove-like notes infused throughout, along with the merest whisper of vanilla. It’s good stuff. It works nicely."
