Mollydooker is the label set up by Sparky and Sarah Marquis in the mid-2000's after involvement with various other SA wineries including Sarah's parents winery, Fox Creek, Their wines quickly caught the attention of Robert Parker who gave them huge scores – the premium wine, Carnival of Love has scored 99/100 numerous times. The Boxer sits only slightly down the chain. It is big and plush (alcohol just under 16%). Flavours of blueberry, spice and those dark jubes. This is smoothly mouth coating and richly decadent.
Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"'Mollydooker' is old Aussie slang for a left handed boxer and our Boxer always punches well above its Fruit Weight™. Did you notice he has two left-handed gloves?
The 2023 Boxer is poised to impress Shiraz enthusiasts with its deep and complex profile. It features a solid core of dark fruit, including ripe black cherries, mocha, and a hint of clove spice, all of which emerge vividly from the glass. The wine’s rich and velvety mouthfeel is enhanced by a soft plummy texture, while well-measured tannins and a touch of toasted oak provide balance and structure. This combination creates a rich, multi-layered experience, making the 2023 Boxer a truly engaging and enjoyable tasting experience.
The grapes were grown on vineyards in McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek. The Boxer has been Barrel fermented and matured in 100% American oak, using 40% new and 60% one year old. The required Marquis Fruit Weight™ for the Lefty Series is 65% – 75%. The Actual Fruit Weight for 2023 The Boxer is 68%."
