Mollydooker is the label set up by Sparky and Sarah Marquis in the mid-2000's after involvement with various other SA wineries including Sarah's parents winery, Fox Creek, Their wines quickly caught the attention of Robert Parker who gave them huge scores – the premium wine, Carnival of Love has scored 99/100 numerous times. The Boxer sits only slightly down the chain. It is big and plush (alcohol just under 16%). Flavours of blueberry, spice and those dark jubes. This is smoothly mouth coating and richly decadent.
Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"'Mollydooker' is old Aussie slang for a left handed boxer and our Boxer always punches well above its Fruit Weight™. Did you notice he has two left-handed gloves?
The 2022 Boxer boasts a robust foundation of dark fruit, black cherries, moccha, and a hint of clove spice that comes alive in the glass. Its velvety texture delivers notes of fresh plum, balanced tannins, and a subtle touch of toasted oak, all of which enhance the richness of the fruit. This wine offers a complex experience with multiple layers that are sure to impress.
The grapes were grown on vineyards in McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek. The Boxer has been Barrel fermented and matured in 100% American oak, using 38% new, 49% one year old, and 13% two year old barrels. The required Marquis Fruit Weight™ for the Lefty Series is 65% – 75%. The Actual Fruit Weight for 2021 The Boxer is 68%."
