Blended variety white wines are not that common in New Zealand where single variety wines dominate. That is a shame as the Europeans have known for centuries, often the whole can offer more than the sum of the parts. This is a case in point.
A bright star indeed, Sirius White from the famed organic vineyards of Millton in Gisborne is a delicious yet somewhat enigmatic blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Muscat. Full of lusciously ripe stonefruit character it is lifted by the floral notes of Muscat and driven by the acidity of Chenin Blanc. It all comes together in a texturally pleasing and surprisingly serious wine at a fantastic price.
Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"Sirius White 2021 is a harmonious fusion of grape varieties, creating a symphony of flavours and aromas that will enchant your palate. The Chardonnay brings forth a luscious body and delicate notes of green apple and citrus, while the Chenin Blanc contributes a refreshing zest with hints of pear and fresh minerality."
Rated Excellent & 93+/100 Cameron Douglas MS, August 2024 (2021 Vintage)
"An intense bouquet filled with scents of ripe stone fruits and sweet citrus, some fine lees work and clay mineral suggestions. An off-dry touch as the wine enters the palate, this is contrasted quickly by the acid line and citrus flavours, then a mix of stone fruits and flowers. There’s an exotic theme through the palate, the wine remains persistent, fresh, lively and balanced. Best drinking from day of purchase through 2030."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2024 (2021 Vintage)
"It's generously fruited and fragrant on the nose, showing golden peach, baked apple, fig and warm spice aromas. The palate is beautifully weighted and richly textured with well-balanced acidity, finishing long and complex. A blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc & Muscat. Certified organic & biodynamic. At its best: now to 2027."
