Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"Brassknocker by McArthur Ridge is our Village level Pinot Noir, the name is inspired from the unique Brassknocker soils which the McArthur Ridge vineyard are planted in, sited on expansive ancient glacial moraine terraces in Alexandra, Central Otago.

Beautiful floral notes, aromatic and complex, showing ripe cherry, oak spice, and mocha notes on the nose. The palate is succulent with rich red berry notes, violets, oregano herbal nuances and fine tannins. The wine is supported by fine acidity and finishes with a long and balanced persistency…”so pretty.”"

IWC Judges' Comments (2022 Vintage)
"This is a beautifully supple, pretty expression of Central Otago Pinot Noir, showing silky black cherry fruit with nice density and some fresh green hints. So Expressive."

Reviews for the 2021 vintage below…

Buy of the week & 89/100, Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review (2021 Vintage)
"How do you make and sell a recognisable Central Otago pinot noir for the modest sum? Part of the answer must be to make lots of it. Certainly, the McArther Ridge vineyard was viticulture on a grand scale when I last visited it some considerable time ago. The wine shows no sign of being stretched or pushed. It is simply a good drink.

McArthur Ridge’s entry-level wine delivers more than it’s price suggests it might. Pretty cherry and violet flavours with a seasoning of spice. There is a touch of wood-smoke suggesting clumsy oak but the wine delivers plenty for its humble price tag."

4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2021 Vintage)
"Estate-grown at Alexandra, the full, bright ruby-hued 2021 vintage is fresh, mouthfilling, savoury and smooth. Still very youthful, it has generous, ripe cherry, plum and spice flavours, showing good complexity, and obvious potential for cellaring; best drinking 2024+. Fine value."

DWWA Judges Comments (2021 Vintage)
“Nice bouquet, pretty and fresh, a core of light red berry fruits with a fine savoury layer adding depth and charm. Lovely mouthfeel, delicious and long.”

92/100 Cameron Douglas MS, December 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"A lovely bouquet and palate, a wine that showcases aromas and flavours of dark almost black cherry, plum and some black currant qualities. Dry with moderate tannins and medium+ acidity then flavours that mirror the bouquet. Dry with moderate length and well made. Best drinking from 2022 through 2027."
