Mayer is a small producer of hand crafted, single vineyard wines (in Yara Valley, Victoria). He believes that wines are made in the vineyard and with as little interference as possible. His aim? To make wines with a point of difference, or in Mayer’s words… Bring back the funk.
94/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, February 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"Attractive wine this. Aromatic, pale in colour, savoury, strong ribbons of tannin, herbal notes amongst dried, red berry and sour cherry characters. It’s a fresh feeling red alongside all this, and succulent. And those tannins shape the wine beautifully and long. Pinosity, but with that web of fine grip. Yeah."
93/100 Philip Rich, James Halliday's Wine Companion, January 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"A north-facing slope at De Bortoli vineyard in Dixons Creek; Rose clone (111); 100% whole bunches, seasoned oak. A light, bright, cherry red. Super-aromatic, with redcurrants and red cherries, fennel seeds, rose potpourri and a hint of Vietnamese mint. Light–medium bodied with grippy tannins, this is a thoroughly enjoyable summer nebbiolo that could even be served slightly chilled. Drink by 2027."
