Gold Medal – Paris Vinalies International 2023
Based in the tiny village of Rilly-la-Montagne, the Chauvet family have been making Champagne here since 1529. Winemaker Clotilde Chauvet and her viticulturist brother Nicolas are putting the family’s centuries of experience into every bottle produced from their 13 ha estate on the Montagne de Reims. There is a strong Kiwi connection as well – Clotilde was winemaking at Quartz Reef when the decision was made to produce sparkling wines and her experience and knowledge helped the early development. She married a New Zealander before returning to Champagne.
A classic 1/3 Chardonnay, 1/3 Pinot Noir, 1/3 Pinot Meunier blend with 70% of the 2019 harvest and 30% of reserve wine. Brut Tradition is a great classic of the house, based on fruit and freshness it reveals aromas of citrus, honey and buttered brioche.
As Clotilde says… "Brut can be enjoyed at any time, it is ideal for a party! It is the Champagne that requires the most attention from me when blending, in order to perpetuate ‘the Marc Chauvet taste and style’."
