Can we just say that this is one of the best red wine buys in the shop at the moment? Yes, we can.
We don't see a lot of Californian Cabernet in New Zealand as usually they are outside the budgets of most NZers. They do know how to produce world class Cabernets. However, we were a bit dubious trying this wine… we expected a cheap tasting, slightly sweet wine. Tasting it, we were all in immediate agreement that this is a very tasty Cabernet. There are ripe varietal characters – cassis and dark fruits with a nice earthy, savoury undertone. Not complex, but satisfying.
Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"2021 was a great year for California Cabernet Sauvignon, with a smooth harvest following a moderate and consistent growing season. The dry summer resulted in reduced yields but outstanding quality and great concentration in the fruit.
This Cabernet is deeply coloured with black cherry and dark chocolate aromas accented by a subtle smokiness. Enjoyable flavours of blackberry, cassis and mocha mingle with supple tannins leading to a pleasant, lingering finish."
