A firm favourite of ours and quite possibly the greater population due to its inherently lovable nature. A definite inclusion on our list of 'comfort wines', Main Divide Riesling is so easy to enjoy.
Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"Warm and settled weather during flowering led to an optimal fruit set. A perfect summer, followed by a warm dry autumn then enabled the grapes to be harvested with excellent flavour development, concentration and physiological ripeness.
On release it is pale gold, with an enticing bouquet of stone fruit, green apple, blossom and potpourri. In the mouth there is satisfying weight and concentration, balanced with refreshing acidity and minerality that creates a lively tension to complement the wine’s off dry finish. "
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, January 2020 (2016 Vintage)
"Fabulously fruited and gorgeously fragrant, the wine shows golden peach, candied apple, honey, orange peel and subtle spice notes on the nose, leading to a succulent palate that's richly textured and persistent. It's opulent and flavoursome with loads of tasty flavours. Style: Medium. At its best: now to 2023."
92/100 Cameron Douglas MS, December 2019 (2016 Vintage)
"Distinctive aromatics, varietal, fruity and intense. With flavours of lemon and spice, apple and flowers, honeysuckle and apricot this wine has much to say. A coarse silk texture, refreshing and lively acidity, flavours that reflect the nose and a lengthy, tasty and light toasty finish. With nearly four years bottle age so far this wine demonstrates how well Riesling can age and that complexity and flavour development are an important part of the the life-cycle of this variety. Drink now and through 2022."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"Enjoyable now, the 2016 vintage of this good-value Waipara wine is a distinctly medium style. Bright, light yellow/green, it has generous, citrusy, slightly spicy flavours, a hint of honey, fresh acidity, and excellent immediacy and harmony. (From Pegasus Bay.)"
17.5/20 Joelle Thomson, October 2020 (2016 Vintage)
"Main Divide is the little sister to the impressive Pegasus Bay brand and in both cases Riesling is the superhero with its high concentration of super delicious flavours. Think limes, lemons, mandarins, ripe peach and you’re on the money. As value goes, this wine is hard to beat."
