Forager is the passionate side project of Dominic Maxwell, founding winemaker of Greystone in Waipara. This 'Little' Forager is a new wine to sit alongside his impressive Forager Pinot Noir.
The Little Forager is a blend of three North Canterbury Pinot Noir vineyards; capturing three different soils types, river gravels, silt loam and chalky limestone.
The resulting wine is a little lighter on its feet compared to its 'Older Sibling' and is real pinot lover's pinot. Nice and approachable with subtle complexity and ripe red fruits, we all thought it would be a lovely wine to have with a slight chill in spring/summer or a generous BBQ style pinot.
Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"This is the first release of the Little Forager Pinot Noir. Vinified from the 2023 Season, from three North Canterbury Pinot Noir vineyards; capturing three different soils types, river gravels, silt loam and chalky limestone. Fermented naturally with indigenous yeasts with 20% retained whole bunches. Gentle extraction using minimal hand plunging through time on skins has provided a wine with texture and generous sweet fruits, in a light frame. Barrel aged for 12 months without racking, where a natural MLF completed, before blending and bottling on-site."
