Sourced from the Dorrien Block vineyard planted in the 1950’s the wine was aged in a combination of old and new American oak. Magnificent colour saturation with a midnight black core and very deep dark red black hue. Intense aromatics of liquorice, blackberry liqueur, dark chocolate, black plum and mocha jump out of the glass followed by spicy vanillin oak. The palate possesses huge weight, concentration and richness with a powerful voluptuously textured flavour profile of liquorice, blackberry liqueur and dark plum over a backdrop of very spicy vanillin oak and mocha. There’s some heat present on the finish but to those who like their reds bold and super rich this will be insignificant. Velvet smooth tannins. Long powerful aftertaste of liquorice, spicy black plums, blackberry liqueur, dark chocolate, mocha and vanillin oak.
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, April 2023 (2020 Vintage)
"Superbly ripe and opulent, the wine is packed with rich fruit intensity, cake spice, cedary oak and dark chocolate flavours. It's plush and velvety in the mouth, displaying multi-layered mouthfeel backed by loads of silky tannins, finishing impressively long and gratifying. At its best: now to 2035."
