Winemaker, Brent Marris (Marisco, Ned…) knows a thing or two about making tasty Pinot Gris. The Leefield Station vineyard project is a relatively recent addition to his range. Purchased in 2013 for partial vineyard conversion, the Leefield Station is an iconic Sheep and Beef station located in the heart of the Waihopai Valley, Marlborough. This is a genuinely dry style with rich spice, pineapple and pear flavours.
Winery notes (2025 Vintage)
"The nose exhibits delightful aromas of stone fruits and pears with hints of floral notes. The fruit sweetness provides a generous palate perfectly balanced with the natural acidity finishing in a soft and refreshing dry style of Pinot Gris.
The Pinot Gris fruit was field destemmed before being gently pressed to stainless steel tanks in preparation for fermentation. Purposely selected yeast strains were chosen to enhance the varietal intensity and mouthfeel, with a slow and steady fermentation to preserve these aromatics. After a short period of time on yeast lees the wine was fined and filtered prior to bottling."
91/100 Cameron Douglas MS, January 2026 (2025 Vintage)
"A lovely wine, taut and just dry, a core of ripe red apple and green pear flavours, there’s a whisper of honeysuckle and quince along with a gentle white spice quality. Medium-weighted with a decent line of acidity carrying core pomaceous fruit flavours and fine citrus quality suggesting lemon skin. Salivating and fresh, nice length and intensity, well made and ready to drink mid 2026 and through 2028."
