Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"Jackaman’s vineyard is Langmeil’s finest and rarest Cabernet Sauvignon, planted in the 1960s during the Cabernet revolution in the Barossa. This vineyard was lovingly tended by the colourful Barossan Arthur Jackaman, a World War II paratrooper, boxer and butcher who in retirement passed his small plot into Langmeil’s care. Cabernet increased dramatically in the 1950s and ‘60s bringing with it a new vision and direction for the Barossa. From its proud fortified wine heritage, it helped inspire the Barossa’s future as a premium dry red region.
Lifted red and blackcurrant aromas entwine with cedary French oak, hints of savoury, black olive notes. Bright, juicy and rich blue fruits flow onto the palate which is medium to full-bodied. Briary spice, black olive and cedary hints add to the mix with a touch of new oak sweetness and silky tannins to add complexity to the youthful, fruity and velvety finish."
93/100 Huon Hooke, The Real Review, February 2025 (2022 Vintage)
"An opulent nose of heady sweet spices and blackberry jam makes way for a ripe and flavoursome palate. A breath of freshness brings balance while a spine of graphite tannins brings structure. Finishes with an acid bite on the finish but time in the cellar should soften and bring the wine together."
93/100 James Halliday's Wine Companion, October 2024 (2022 Vintage)
Deep crimson in the glass with aromas of plush blackberry, boysenberry and blackcurrant fruits underscored by hints of baking spices, tobacco, red licorice, cedar, dried herbs, pressed flowers, earth and dark chocolate. Pure black fruits on the palate with toothsome, sandy tannins gently tugging at the roof of the mouth, finishing composed, savoury and enduring. Cellaring potential here for sure.
