For something a bit different, the Konrad Grüner Veltliner is worth a try, especially at this deal price. This native Austrian grape has found a suitable home in Marlborough, giving all the aromatic joy that the region is so renown for, but with a subtle spice thread that is the hallmark of this grape.
Konrad Hengstler began planting vines in Marlborough in 1996, it didn’t take him long to shake hands with the Giesen brothers. Their shared commitment to quality shaped their partnerships across decades, ultimately leading Konrad to pass the baton on his retirement. The Giesen brothers continue Konrad Wines’ legacy, distributing quality wines around the world.
Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"Sourced from an outstanding site in Marlborough's Wairau Valley. This cool climate region with long warm days and cool evenings suits this aromatic variety. The Konrad Grüner Veltliner exudes wonderful citrus and orchard fruit characters. The wines bright, crisp acidity and generous flavours delivers a persistent finish.
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2022 Vintage)
"The vigorous, immaculate 2022 vintage is a single-vineyard wine, grown in the Waihopai Valley. Light lemon/green, with a fresh, slightly spicy bouquet, it is medium-bodied, with very lively, peachy, citrusy, spicy flavours and a finely poised, crisp, dry finish. Best drinking 2024+."
