Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"Kim Crawford is one of New Zealand’s most exciting and innovative wine producers. Since its launch in 1996, the label has gained critical acclaim around the globe. Our Small Parcels are micro-cuvées representing the very best of what New Zealand’s pristine, cool-climate vineyards can produce.
Enticing aromas of blackberries. plums and sweet rhubarb with a hint of spice. On the palate rich flavours of plums and blackberries are complemented by hints of baking spice and liquorice with rounded mocha notes. The mouth-filling tannins lead to a sweet vanilla oak finish.
Hand picked and locally fermented. A long, cool ferment and extended post ferment maceration soak lead to beautiful colour extraction and rich, deep fruit and spice flavours. The grapes were pressed before undergoing malolactic fermentation and barrel ageing in 25% new French oak to add further complexity and texture."
92/100 Cameron Douglas MS, April 2025 (2023 Vintage)
"Lovely colour intensity followed by a freshness of ripe red berry fruits, black currant and roses. There is a mineral earthy quality though quite quiet yet noticed. A dry wine on the palate with flavours of black currant and black cherry first then a strawberry compote and plum suggestion. Fine through moderate tannin impact and with a backbone of acidity the wine remains fresh and lovely. Well made with best drinking from late 2026 through 2032."
