You all know and love the Jo Nash Shiraz – Now is your (only) chance to try the Cabernet Sauvignon stablemate.

Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"Delicate aromas of cherry and mint with hints of toast and spice. Rich black fruits and berries on the palate complemented with elegant oak and a nuance of chocolate.

These Cabernet vines are gown along the banks of the Goulburn River, the sandy soils accentuating the grapes flavour and colour. The grapes are picked at their peak ripeness and brought into the winery where fermentation occurs and the wine is gently turned over every 8 hours. This gentle extraction aims to find the perfect balance between fruit flavour, tannin and structure. The wine goes through natural malolactic fermentation and post racking is tucked away in French oak puncheons. After regular tasting and once the wine has reached its ideal balance, select barrels are blended together and put into bottle."

Reviews for the 2022 vintage below…

5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, June 2023 (2022 Vintage)
"Beautifully ripe and fragrant, the inviting bouquet shows blackcurrant, vanilla, olive and cedar characters with a hint of floral overtone. The palate is equally satisfying with succulent fruit flavours backed silky texture and finely pitched tannins, finishing long and comforting. At its best: now to 2033."

Jo Nash, the talented winemaker at McPherson Wines, is making waves with her exceptional creations, especially the renowned "Don't Tell Gary" Shiraz. This small-batch, hand-crafted wine is a true reflection of Jo’s winemaking philosophy, combining ripe blackberry fruits, violets, plum, and spicy liquorice with earthy Autumnal notes. Typically reserved for cellar doors and high-end restaurants in Australia, this wine has become an exclusive treasure in New Zealand, thanks to a special deal by a local importer.

Jo’s winemaking approach shines through in the three wines that bear her name, each embodying her style, authenticity, and understated elegance. The Pinot Noir offers vibrant flavours of raspberries, strawberries, and black cherry, with a fruit-laden palate and supple tannins. The Cabernet Sauvignon delights with delicate aromas of cherry and mint, rich black fruits, and a touch of elegant oak and chocolate. Her Shiraz is a harmonious blend of brooding fruits and French oak, delivering intense blackberries, plums, and a lingering spicy finish.

Jo’s passion for winemaking began with a curiosity about how the same grape variety can produce such varied wines across different regions and climates. Since becoming the Winemaker at McPherson Wine Co. in 2011, she has continued to craft wines that reflect her dedication to quality and her artistic touch. As McPherson Wines looks to the future, Jo emphasises the importance of maintaining their family feel while never compromising on quality, ensuring that their wines continue to bring joy to people for years to come.
