Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"Located fifteen kilometres south of Clare township, the tiny village of Watervale is nestled in South Australia’s Clare Valley and is internationally renowned for the quality of its Rieslings. A consistently awarded wine since its first release in 1974, our Watervale Riesling is picked from select parcels of vines that achieve ripeness with naturally high acid levels.

Explosive florals, fresh lime, and citrus combine with a hint of rockmelon and wet limestone on the nose. The entry is driven by the nose, with a heap of fruit weight. Chalky in texture with white floral, citrus flavours, and a juicy finish."

5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, September 2024 (2023 Vintage)
"Offering terrific fruit purity and poise, the wine shows lime cordial, crunchy apple, green rockmelon and white floral aromas on the nose, followed by a concentrated palate displaying excellent focus and drive. Superbly structured by vibrant acidity, making it mouth-watering and persistent. At its best: 2026 to 2036."

Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, October 2024 (2023 Vintage)
"Varietal, youthful, floral and youthful with scents of white flowers and lemon, fresh green apple and pear, there’s a layer of lees adding breadth and complexity across the bouquet. Crisp and dry, flavours mirror the bouquet, no mistaking the acid line with a saline quality and framing the white fleshed fruits and citrus nicely. Well made and ready to drink from day of purchase through 2030."

92/100 Mike Bennie, James Halliday's Wine Companion (2023 Vintage)
"The milestone of 50 consecutive vintages of this wine comes about with this release; a golden anniversary for a significant Australian wine. This release is attractive for its raciness and zesty, citrus-driven feel. Scents of orange blossom, preserved lime, ginger and blackcurrant. The palate a melange of various citrus, orangey almost with squeezes of lemon and lime, some talc-like elements and a tightly wound, pink grapefruit juice finish. Very pleasurable here, even and flows well, perhaps a touch diffuse in fruit character but a passable thing in a distinct, vigorous and refreshing white wine."

91/100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, September 2023 (2023 Vintage)
"A slight smokiness, lavender, lime and lemon. A fair burst of flavour, quite juicy, with some peach in the mix, a little bit rugged, but has crunch and a finish of solid length with a slight quinine-like bitterness. No complaints. Ever reliable wine."

Jim Barry Wines, a name synonymous with excellence in the Australian wine industry, is deeply rooted in the Clare Valley and Coonawarra regions. With a philosophy centred on vineyard ownership, the Barry family ensures that the quality of their wines begins in the vineyard. By meticulously managing 17 vineyards in the Clare Valley and two in the Coonawarra, they produce grapes of exceptional quality, leading to wines of unparalleled flavour and character.

The Armagh Vineyard, known for its Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec, yields small-berried, intensely flavoured grapes. Meanwhile, the Florita Vineyard is famed for its Riesling, offering a blend of historical significance and rich, concentrated flavours. The Lodge Hill Vineyard's unique soil profiles provide the ideal environment for low-yielding vines, producing wines with intense flavours and fine structure. Additionally, the Old Penola Cricket Ground Vineyard in Coonawarra contributes to their lineup with its Terra Rossa soil, perfect for crafting premium Cabernet Sauvignon.

These vineyards form the foundation of Jim Barry Wines, where each bottle reflects the dedication to quality and tradition that defines the Barry family’s winemaking legacy.
