Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"Florita’ is Spanish for ‘little flower’. Located fifteen kilometres south of Clare township in the tiny village of Watervale, the famous Riesling vineyard was planted to Palamino in 1946 for making Fino Sherry, and replanted to Riesling in 1962. The birthplace of Leo Buring Watervale Riesling, Florita was where legendary winemaker John Vickery sourced his grapes for his great Watervale Rieslings of the 1960s and 1970s. The 80-acre vineyard was sold by globally-owned multi-national company, Lindeman's to brother's Mark, Peter and John Barry in 1986."

96/100 Mike Bennie, James Halliday's Wine Companion (2023 vintage)
"Carrying on from the excellent 2022 Florita Riesling, this is an outstanding release. It has intensity, drive and a sense of precision with a serious line of granite and slate-like mineral character crystalline and brilliant through the wine. The perfume is enticing with apple, jasmine and warm slate scents in play. Flavours of green apple, ginger and pink grapefruit are a beautiful medley woven in tight layers through this compact and energetic wine."

96/100 Ned Goodwin, JamesSuckling.com (2023 Vintage)
"This is perhaps the finest Florita I can recall. Notes of lime cordial are assuaged by a grind of white pepper, nashi and Granny Smith granita, a lilt of wild fennel and a spurt of gin and tonic with a squeeze of lemon across the endless finish. A Clare Valley thoroughbred built for patience and a dark cellar."

96/100 Erin Larkin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2023 Vintage)
"The 2023 The Florita Riesling is layered with elderflower and beeswax, jasmine and even a hint of honeysuckle. It is tremendously floral on the nose. In the mouth, the wine is talc-y and textural, and it spools across the palate. It's a fabulous wine, distinct, with a proven pedigree of graceful aging. Excellent."

95+/100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, September 2023 (2023 Vintage)
"You often don’t have to say too much about Florita; it’s invariably good. Tight, stony, slight spiciness like ginger, a little floral. Very pure and refined, lovely crunch and energy on a long finish, offering a little pink grapefruit. All just so. Time will be very kind. An excellent release."

Jim Barry Wines, a name synonymous with excellence in the Australian wine industry, is deeply rooted in the Clare Valley and Coonawarra regions. With a philosophy centred on vineyard ownership, the Barry family ensures that the quality of their wines begins in the vineyard. By meticulously managing 17 vineyards in the Clare Valley and two in the Coonawarra, they produce grapes of exceptional quality, leading to wines of unparalleled flavour and character.

The Armagh Vineyard, known for its Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec, yields small-berried, intensely flavoured grapes. Meanwhile, the Florita Vineyard is famed for its Riesling, offering a blend of historical significance and rich, concentrated flavours. The Lodge Hill Vineyard's unique soil profiles provide the ideal environment for low-yielding vines, producing wines with intense flavours and fine structure. Additionally, the Old Penola Cricket Ground Vineyard in Coonawarra contributes to their lineup with its Terra Rossa soil, perfect for crafting premium Cabernet Sauvignon.

These vineyards form the foundation of Jim Barry Wines, where each bottle reflects the dedication to quality and tradition that defines the Barry family’s winemaking legacy.
