When we tried a sample bottle of the Giordano Barbera d'Alba it was an instant thumbs up from us all. A bright dark ruby colour this has cherry, spice, floral and maybe a hint of orange peel underpinned by a hint of forest floor savouriness. The palate is soft and fruity with classic freshness and structure. A really enjoyable wine – familiar yet different enough to add interest.
Barbera is one of the finest grape varieties grown in Piedmont, where its crisp acidity and deep colour make it a perfect wine accompany the region’s rich cuisine. Some of the finest Barbera’s come from the Langhe hills around the town of Alba.
Barbera has been called "The people’s wine" of Piedmont for its versatility and its abundant production, close to 55 per cent of the total red D.O.C production. Barbera d’Alba is made of 100% Barbera grapes.
Winery Notes (2021 Vintage)
"The colour is a deep brilliant red, the aroma pleasantly fruit forward with notes of spice, it is full bodied, crisp and at the same time well rounded with a lingering fruit finish."
97/100 Luca Maroni, Leading Italian Wine Critic
"This wine is characterized by its lively body, the concentration of its extract and its rich bouquet of blackberries. A real top-class wine that best combines the organoleptic characteristics of the fruit with the aroma of spices."
