The fruit for this stunning Pinot Noir comes from two of Giesen's organic vineyards in Marlborough's Southern Valleys. The meticulous attention to detail this wine has seen, from vineyard to winery, is evident in its sheer quality. It's beautifully structured with dense dark fruits, loads of savoury appeal and a rich silken palate making this release an absolute triumph.
Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"This silky Organic Pinot Noir shows stunning purity of red fruit flavours, followed by subtle notes of baking spice and mocha. Chalky tannins thread through the succulent delicious fruit, finishing long with wonderfully balanced acidity.
Fruit was sourced from two premium vineyards in Marlborough’s Southern Valleys, certified organic by BioGro New Zealand. High density planting in both vineyards creates natural competition among the vines, reducing vigour, promoting root structure, and intensifying flavour.
Fruit was gently de-stemmed as soon as it arrived at the winery, then gravity-fed to open top fermenters to keep the fruit intact. Cold soaking for seven to nine days allowed early development of colour and flavour prior to fermentation. The wine was macerated for fourteen days before being basket pressed. The free-run juice was aged in 300L French oak barrels for twelve months, resulting in a complex, full-bodied Organic Pinot Noir."
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, March 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"This is wonderfully styled and perfumed, showing dark plum, rich floral, warm spice and toasted nut aromas with a lovely touch of earthy mushroom. The succulent palate delivers plump mouthfeel and silky texture, beautifully framed by fine tannins. It's fleshy and flavoursome with a persistent complex finish. At its best: now to 2033."
95/100 IWC Judges' Comments (2021 Vintage)
"Velvety, intensely fruited cherry and strawberry, blueberry muffin, rich and beautifully balanced, classic varietal expression, long delectable finish."
92/100 Kasia Sobiesiak, The Wine Front, March 2024 (2021 Vintage)
"It’s forward with the bright, crunchy fruit perfume. Cherry and red plum, raspberry and a hint of blue fruit with an overarching note of liquorice. Bitter-tart juice with hints of toast, coffee beans and a suggestion of black pepper. It has purity and brightness and the texture is great here with firm tannins and flavour peaking towards the finish."
