Barolo has the status of Italy’s greatest red wine and is the stuff of legends. What makes Giacomo Fenocchio’s– a fifth generation producer – special is its downright drinkability even when young. Even more so when you consider his traditional and non-interventionist winemaking. Long maceration (40 days) in stainless steel followed by 30 months in large Slavonian oak casks. Plenty of tar and roses on the nose, liquorice and spice on the palate and a regally long finish.
Reviews for the 2019 vintage below…
94/100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, July 2023 (2019 Vintage)
"Dark cherry, new leather, sage and spice, liquorice. Fuller bodied, darker fruit, something of ferrous quality, some plum and blood orange, a firm chew to tannin, kind of brick dust, with some earthy flavours and a tight grained tannin finish of excellent length. It’s rich and firm but balanced and so satisfying. Classic."
92/100 Jeb Dunnuck (2019 Vintage)
"The 2019 Barolo pours a deep ruby and comes from a single parcel just outside of Bussia in Monforte d'Alba. It saw 40 days of maceration and was fermented in stainless steel tanks before being aged in 25- to 35-hectoliter Slavonian oak casks. Alluring and ripe, it reveals notes of balsamic, black cherry, and purple flowers. This medium-bodied red has moderate tannins, with elegant freshness throughout, and expresses wild raspberry fruit and dusty earth. It is an outstanding value to drink over the next 8-10 years."
