Winery notes
"Galway Pipe is named after Governor Sir Henry Galway, Governor of South Australia between 1914-1920. Governor Galway was a frequent visitor to the winery and on each visit he would conduct a tasting of the finest ‘pipes’ (500 litre barrels) of fortified tawny. Whichever pipe was most to his liking was inscribed as ‘Galway’s Pipe’ and that particular blend was used exclusively at Government House.
This superior Grand Tawny Port displays a nose of raisins, dried pears, grilled nuts and spicy, dusty oak and is a rich garnet colour in the glass. The palate has balanced sweetness complemented by a good level of fresh acidity. This results in a wine that has pronounced aged character but maintains freshness and a long dry finish, avoiding any cloying character."
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, April 2025
"This is gorgeously composed and expressed, showing raisin, toffee, star anise, and assorted nut aromas on the nose. The palate is equally satisfying with excellent weight and velvety texture, wonderfully complemented by delectable sweetness and juicy acidity, making it highly enjoyable."
