A refined Barolo from a boutique producer. Formerly a Classico, this great value label is now sourced only from vineyards in the town of Verduno. The family has been receiving recognition since the mid-Nineteenth Century but still work hard to produce wines of perfect balance and delicacy. Lots of cru fruit goes into this humble Barolo, which has a staggering potential to develop for a wine of this price. It will delight just as well in the nearer term.
95/100 Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast (2020 Vintage)
"Showing depth and elegance the site is known for, the 2020 San Lorenzo di Verduno has multi-faceted scents of ripe red berry, underbrush, dog rose, leather and eucalyptus. Full-bodied and loaded with finesse, the delicious palate delivers ripe Morello cherry, wild raspberry, star anise and ground clove set against a backbone of refined tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced. Abv: 14.5%." Drink 2028 – 2035"
93/100 James Suckling (2020 Vintage)
"This is spiced and walnut-like on the nose with fresh red fruit, cloves, licorice and bark on offer. Medium- to full-bodied, tense and firm with compact tannins and vivid acidity. Shows impressive volume and length. Juicy and vibrant, too, with a lingering, zesty finish. Try from 2027."
